Crystal is our Director of Legal Operations and Human Resources. She is a former Junior High teacher, who went back to school to become a paralegal. She came to Hilgers via Ameritas Life Insurance Corp. as an HR Compliance and Legal Operations Manager headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska. Prior to her time at Ameritas, she spent thirteen years at the State of Nebraska primarily in Employee Relations, Risk, and Human Resources roles. She holds a BA in Education with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Psychology from Midland Lutheran College (Fremont, NE). Crystal also holds an AS in Paralegal Sciences from Hamilton College. She has earned the Society of Human Resources Management – Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) designation and a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace certificate from USF Muma College of Business. She has served on the board of directors for the Timber Ridge Homeowners Association (Treasurer), Ms. Wheelchair Nebraska, Inc. (President & Treasurer) and Ms. Wheelchair America, Inc. (Treasurer). She recently served on the Rejuvenating Women Board of Directors (Secretary) – a non-profit organization out of Omaha, Nebraska that rescues and helps rehabilitate women who have been human trafficked or trapped in the sex trade. She is also an advocate for the disabled population and is a paid consultant providing training for leaders on topics related to disability etiquette, inclusion, and leadership.
Crystal and her husband serve extensively at Liberty Church and Liberty Academy in Shawnee, Oklahoma and their own ministry – By the Book, which supports communities in rural Kenya. They live just outside Shawnee and have one rescued Great Dane named Maverick and one rescued Staffordshire Terrier named Charlie. Crystal enjoys traveling, gardening, fishing, sewing, and reading books while relaxing in the sun!
